More Scooby

Well, it seems that some people just don't seem to understand how big Scooby is so I thought I'd attempt to show you. First of all, Scooby stands 17.1 hands high and a hand is 4 inches. That means that at his withers - where his neck meets his back - he is 5' 9" tall! So if he raises his head it is over 7' high!!! Scooby weighs about 2000 lbs, as a comparison, Tapper (my mare that I ride) weighs about 1100lbs. Scooby is almost twice that! A horse's head is usually considered to be about 10% of it's total body weight. That means Scooby's head alone weighs 200 lbs!

I know that most pictures of Scooby just don't make the point of his size, but I have a couple that might. The photo on the left was taken when Scooby arrived at the farm. Amy S. is the woman who first found him and brought him here and that is her untying him from the trailer. Amy is 5'5" tall.

The next photo is Amy S. riding Scooby, She may look like she's about 12 up there but she's a married woman in her 20's! Are you starting to get the picture now??? Scooby is by no means the largest horse in the world, but he is the biggest horse on this farm. His size can be very intimidating but luckily for all concerned he is one of the sweetest and most gentle horses I know. For any of you who haven't had the chance to meet him in person, I invite you to come visit. If you bring him carrots or apples (or Nature Valley Oat and Honey granola bars), he will be your friend for ever! As you can see in the photo to the left, a big apple is gone in one bite for him, but he's very gentle about it, he uses his lips, not his teeth to take it from your hand.
So come visit and meet this boy in person, and meet the rest of the gang too while you're at it!
