It was -5 outside the barn this morning. Inside the big barn it was 20 and the other barn was 15 (there is no loft full of hay to insulate that barn!). All the horses were fine. Deja and Scooby were
both out in their run-ins and Deja still had her blanket on. I think she must have been lying down at some point because the blanket was all askew. She was good about letting me fix it though. I had given everyone lots of extra hay last night and I'm glad I did! Everyone still had at least a little hay left so no one ran short! Josey was the only horse in her barn to need water so I just carried over a bucket for her. All the horses in the main barn needed water. Abby was drinking it as fast as I could fill it up! They all (including the goats) got breakfast at 6 along with hay and water, and all seemed happy to stay in - even Sundance didn't put up a big fuss! Rosy didn't want to come out with me this morning - smart girl! So she stayed up at the house with Echo and Sadie and was there to greet Sara and Brodie when they arrived. They'll be spending a lot of indoor/couch potato time today!
I let the horses out about 9am after putting on Ziegy's bla
nket. He looks snazzy! Josey was fascinated by the blanket, and Pepper thought it was great fun to lick and chew on it! I think they are just jealous!
I think Sundance is starting to get a little senile! I put him out with Deja while she still had her blanket on and he had a fit!!! He chased her, kicked at her, screamed at her... You could almost hear him saying "Who are you and what have you done with my girlfriend!!!" I had to get her in and take off the blanket. Then I turned her back out with him and all was fine! I know his eyesight isn't great but he still should have known it was her!
It's sunny but very cold still and windy. Hmmmm..... I think tonight would be a good night to give them a nice warm bran mash for dinner!
