Rain and High Spirits

OK, I'm a little late with this post - sorry....

We finally had some rain! We are still very dry and have a rainfall deficit, but at least we aren't in a dust bowl any more! After the rain the temperatures dropped and it has been beautiful and cool. I think the cool weather has made the horses rather frisky and full of themselves.....

Carla and I were riding Scotty and Jazzy last weekend. Scotty got a little ahead of us on the Tenney Rd. trail so Jazz decided to catch up. First he trotted, then he asked to go a little faster and I let him. I did NOT expect what I got! He broke into the most comfortable, FAST canter that I have ever ridden! He has an incredible amount of power and it was an amazing feeling - but a very smooth ride..........

The next day Carla and I rode Ziegy and Tapper up the mountain. We had a nice ride, until we got back. We came into the field off the road, started down the hill and around the corner, and Ziegy started to buck! Yes, he ruined Carla's perfect, "never been bucked off" record. She lost her stirrup, lost her balance, and off she came! By the time I turned around to see what was happening she was hanging off the side trying with all her might to pull herself back up into the saddle, but she was too far gone and fell (she was fine, except for her pride). Ziegy took off and ran back to the barn. Tapper was a VERY good girl and didn't freak out when Ziegy ran off. She stayed calm and walked back to the barn with me on her and Carla walking beside us. Carla got back on Ziegy and we rode back to the field. Tapper and I stayed at the bottom and I let her graze while Carla took Ziegy around the field a few times. The first time he bucked again - but she was ready for him. The 2nd time he trotted a little down hill, but no bucks, and the 3rd time around, Tapper and I followed them and he was perfect. ............

The rest of the horses have been a little silly. Scotty decided to join Dolly in her run the other night so he took down the top and middle rails and stepped over the bottom one. When I went down in the morning there he was... I don't think Dolly was impressed. He shouldn't be doing that again, I put a line of electric rope across the wooden fence... Cami and the girls have been chasing each other around, and Scooby has been having a great time bossing Ziegy and Autumn around. I think he's enjoying having pals..... Esther sent us some photos of her new horse "Doc". She has been having a great time with him, doing some trail riding (suburban style).
