Busy Weekend

Well, the most exciting thing that happened this weekend is we got a new boarder!!!  Her name is Sassy, and she is very sweet.  She's a beautiful light chestnut (sorrel) with a flaxen mane and tail.  Sassy is a Quarter Horse cross, and she belongs to Denise.  Sassy is a VERY vocal horse, she has an extremely loud whinny and scream, but she also has the most delightful soft nicker whenever she sees me coming (which I love).  The photo is not the best, I'll try to get some better ones when it stops raining.  Sassy arrived on Saturday, and Denise saddled her up, I saddled Jazz, and he and I showed them around so Denise would know where she could ride here on the property.  Sassy was a very good girl, except that she fell in love with Ziegy over the fence and immediately went into heat!

Kate and I took Jazz and Scotty on Friday and marked the trail to Sweet Pea Farm.  It was a lot of starting and stopping for the boys while we tied marking tape on trees, but if we didn't do it now, we'd never find the trail again in the spring (we almost didn't find it Friday!).

Sunday, Jean came over with her new horse(his name is Caesar, but she might change it). I tacked up Becca, and we went for a ride.  We went from the Brook trail to Massey Rd, then back down to Farmer Browns, then took the Sweet Pea Farm trail - we had marked it well, we didn't get lost!  In all, it was a little over 7 miles, with a lot of hills - some pretty steep - both up and down.  Both horses did great!  They took turns leading, and we had a lot of fun.  Jean's new boy is a keeper, absolutely beautiful face and head, light chestnut, sensible, willing, calm, just a very good boy.  The photo was taken while riding, I'll try to get a better shot of him next time.

It's a Ruff Life

Well, for some reason blogspot would not let me upload this video, so I had to do it through youtube.  It means the video is a larger size, extending into the right margain, but oh well.  If the video doesn't show for you, there should still be a "play" button in the lower left corner (just above this paragraph) and if you click that button it should play for you.  If it doesn't, let me know and I'll try something else...
You can also see the video on youtube at my youtube page.  The link is http://www.youtube.com/user/DancingHorseFarm1?feature=mhsn

Suggestions...
If you have any ideas of things to include on the blog, questions you want answered, something you've been wondering about....  Let me know and I'll try to include them.

Joey

We have a new
resident here at the farm.  His name is Joey, and he is a smooth coated collie.  Joey will be 3 years old on Dec. 17th.  He has fit right in with the girls, they all get along great as you can see in the photos.  He even mostly gets along with Tootsie!  Joey came from a breeder in Swanzey, NH.  She breeds both smooth coated collies and rough coated collies (think Lassie).  She had way too many dogs and her husband lost his job so she needed to find homes for some of them.  Joey was a show dog, and has his AKC championship, which basically means that he stands nicely for a judge, and walks beautifully on leash, but doesn't have a clue about any other obdience commands!!!  We are currently working on "sit" and "come" and he's starting to get them.  I'd like to take him to an obedience class but there aren't any locally until November.  Joey is small for a male in his breed, he's about 55 lbs.  He is not yet neutered, but he will be!  (Don't tell him.)  Joey LOVES toys as you can see.  He likes to pull them out of the doggy toy box and surround himself.  He's a good watch dog, keeping track of things by himself, with Echo, and with Rosy.  He takes a lot of cues from them, but has a mind of his own too.  Do you have any idea how hard it was to get a photo of the 3 dogs together???  They don't stay still long enough to get a non-blurry shot!   Joey is about as sweet as he could be, but he is curious about everything and likes to put things in his mouth and taste them.  He always keeps track of where I am in the house and stays very close.  I would not call him insecure, but he just LOVES attention.  I have a feeling that after coming from a place with 20 or 30 dogs, mostly kept outdoors in kennels, being in a home with just 2 other dogs is paradise.
